New Way To Thank Our First Responders –
Maine. I have lived in and loved this state since 1999. Perhaps best known as a former news reporter and anchor, and for my naturally curly hair, I am a longtime supporter of people who protect and defend our country and communities. So I guess it’s not surprising, while on a news story, I became smitten with a certain police officer whom I later married.
I am most proud of the stories that I wrote and produced as part of the long-running television news series “Get Out Alive,” where we showed viewers how to get out of dangerous situations, while highlighting the work of first responders in the process. I feel very blessed that more than a decade later, I continue to be asked to emcee charity events around the state of Maine.
Being passionate about protectors, inspired by Maine’s vibrant local business community and fueled by a commitment to community service, Code Gratitude truly combines everything I love.
The idea for Code Gratitude came about when when I realized, almost by accident, that some businesses gave discounts to law enforcement officers. I wondered why my husband and I were unaware of these discounts and thought it would be great to have a website that could highlight incentives to police officers and other protectors. I envisioned a website that was easy to use and didn’t require any shopping online or printing out a coupon. The site would highlight businesses who share the same passion for our protectors, by offering discounts for fun things like a night out at a restaurant or more practical things like oil changes. Marketing, businesses could feel good about.
And so Code Gratitude was born. While Code Gratitude is focusing on businesses in Maine to start, my goal is to expand Code Gratitude to protectors in other states in the future. Of course, any protector visiting the state of Maine is welcome to take advantage of the deals being offered by Code Gratitude members.
In addition to providing discounts to protectors, Code Gratitude wants to inspire future protectors. We will use a portion of membership fees to fund scholarships for high school seniors who are joining the military, studying fire science or criminal justice.
This site is about community, honor, service and of course gratitude. Qualities my husband Andy and I work hard to instill in our two boys, Quinn and Rowen.
