Meredith has been a leader in Portland’s business community since 1979. In 1986, she co-founded Burgess, Brewer, Stanyon & Payne, Inc. In March of 1991, she became the sole owner and changed the name to Burgess Advertising & Associates, Inc. and in 2008 it was modified slightly to Burgess Advertising and Marketing. She began her advertising and marketing career in 1978 at McDonald’s Corporation and then Arnold & Company, working out of their Portland office, where she became a Vice President for Account Services.
Meredith’s strong focus on teamwork earned the company the 1999 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence. In June of 2000, Meredith was awarded the coveted Eagle Feather Award from Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility in recognition of Burgess Advertising’s family-friendly policies, attention to personal and professional values in client relationships, and extensive involvement in a wide variety of community activities. In the spring of 2006, Junior Achievement of Maine inducted her into the prestigious Maine Business Hall of Fame. She was only the seventh woman in Maine to receive this honor. Her company has also been named Maine’s Best Places to Work in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Meredith has been active with the Ronald McDonald House program since 1979. She assisted with the opening of Maine’s first Ronald McDonald House in Bangor in 1983 and now serves on the board Emeriti of the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor. She also assisted with the opening of the Ronald McDonald house in Portland was president of the Board of Directors from 1995 to 2001 and continued to serve on the board of the Ronald McDonald House of Portland, Inc through 2007. In 1993, she received the YWCA’ s Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) award. In 1996, she received a Volunteers of America “Star” award and in 2005 was named as one of the Top 100 Volunteers in Maine at the annual Governor’s Service Awards. In the fall of 2006, she was the first woman to be welcomed for membership in the Cumberland-North Yarmouth Lions Club, since it’s founding 50 years ago. firstname.lastname@example.org
Matthew Burgess – Business Development Manager
Matt returns to the Burgess team after a year and a half as Marketing Director at Shamrock Sports & Entertainment. In his new role, he’ll work closely with management to build the agency’s client base through new approaches, new revenue streams and new industry categories.
At Shamrock, Matt helped manage and attract sponsors for such notable clients as Richard Childress Racing (NASCAR), Sea World Parks & Entertainment, Goulian Aerosports, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) and the AFL (Arena Football League). He worked on deals involving sponsors such as Sony, NAPA Auto Parts and Whelen Engineering.
Matt previously interned with Arnold Worldwide in Boston, where he worked on the Titleist, Footjoy, and Pinnacle golf accounts, and joined BAM as an Assistant Account Executive upon his graduation in 2008 from The University of Maine with a BS in Business Marketing.
