Susan Curtis Foundation
Melissa joined the Camp Susan Curtis team in April of 2011 after leaving Drummond Woodsum in Portland and Portsmouth, New Hampshire where she practiced in the Education Law group. Raised in Kansas, Melissa began her career as an actor in regional, dinner, and repertory theaters on the East Coast and in the Midwest.
After several years “on the road,” Melissa began teaching early education. There, some particularly courageous children changed her path toward law and she returned to the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!). Following law school, Melissa represented exclusively children and their families in the Kansas City area.
She moved to Spokane, Washington in 2001 where she enjoyed 6 life-altering years as the director of a non-profit providing legal advocacy and other services to abused children and their families.
In 2007, Melissa moved to Maine and returned to law practice. Now happily back in the non-profit sector, she and her husband, Rodger, live in Portland with their 3 children (Elaine, Christian and Meredith), 2 cats (Adelaide and Scout, a.k.a. “Moose”) and their rescue dog (Andy).
