Portland consolidated its little league boys into one charter this year and softball was already consolidated.  Nonetheless, this victory was encouraging to the entire league as Portland is once again showing it can be a contender in competition with historically stronger leagues.  Softball enrollment is on the rise in Portland and we hope that this victory will encourage participation in this sport.

After losing our first game at the District level, we fought back from the Loser’s Bracket to beat Scarborough twice for the title.  The competition at this District is so intense that the State Championship was less daunting a task.  However, Saco played great ball and after losing to them by one run in the bottom of the sixth inning, we won the next 3 games to face them again in the championship and claim the State title.

We are proud to play good ball and prouder to play softball in such a way that we can be ambassadors for our sport.  We look forward to facing the best of the best at Eastern Regionals and being challenged to be better ballplayers.
