Stephen Schwartz has been trying cases for 30 years, first as a prosecutor and then as a defense lawyer. He practices in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, and wills and probate law and has been called the busiest solo practitioner in the State of Maine.

Steve is a trial lawyer, who is known for having won several nearly impossible cases, including an armed robbery where his client was seen trying to withdraw cash with ATM cards stolen in the robbery 10 minutes after the robbery took place, and OUI in which his client admitted to drinking 8 beers in a short period of time. He also tries contested probate and personal injury matters.

Steve has served on almost every committee of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar, having served for eight years on the hearing-level Grievance Commission and two years on the Ethics Commission, before serving appointment of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court on the Board of Overseers for six years. He now serves by appointment of the SJC as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Maine Lawyers Fund for Client Protection.

In his spare time, he broadcasts high school sporting events for television, co-hosted a television show, Law on the Line, and serves as an umpire for baseball and softball, from Little League to the high school level.

He lives with his wife, Susie in Portland, Maine, and has three sons, Lenny, Andrew and Jack.
