Pillars of Pride Event –

The Biddeford School Department has reinstated the Biddeford Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to enrich the educational experience for the students of Biddeford.  Through partnerships with the community and district, the Foundation will provide resources outside the normal school budget to augment teaching, encourage academic excellence, and maximize opportunities for students K-12.  We want to be responsible stewards of the taxpayers’ dollar, hold the line on spending, but providing kids with unique opportunities costs money, and that’s where the foundation comes in: providing support to our great teachers who want to engage in a special project, trip, academic experience, etc.

To help us achieve success and spread the word about the Foundation, we are holding our first annual fundraising event – Pillars of Pride dinner and silent auction.  This event will honor two pillars within our community and generous contributors to lifelong learning, Roland Eon of P&C Insurance and Jim Godbout of Jim Godbout Plumbing and Heating.

Roland, a 1970 Alum, has worked his way up the ranks at P&C Insurance during the last 30 years and plans to retire later this year. He is the quiet sole who often leads the way when asked for help.  He has served on countless Boards and committees, including: Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, Southern Maine Health Care, Hospice of Southern Maine, MaineHeatlh, Sweetser, Biddeford Saco Rotary Club, and more. He has offered financial support to the Biddeford School System for years, including athletics, arts, music and educational initiatives.

Jim is a local entrepreneur who not only talks the talk but walks the walk.  He has served on countless Boards and committees, including: coaching a variety of sports for Biddeford students; the Biddeford Athletic Association, Waterhouse Field Commission, Biddeford Saco Rotary Club and Founder of the Red Ribbon Committee; YMCA; Chamber and more. He is instrumental in setting an example by inspiring and teaching our young students who are pursuing the trades at the Center of Technology.

Together, Roland and Jim have taken humble steps to improve our community.  Their awards are often mirrored – both have received the Bill Kany Leadership Award, Goodwin Outstanding Service Award, Rotarian of the Year – and they have numerous awards that are just as prestigious. They are a reflection on the Foundation’s goals – to maximize opportunities for our students in Biddeford – and we are fortunate to have these pillars in our community.
