Puritan Medical Products Company LLC/Hardwood Products Company LLC of Guilford Maine has become the nation’s principal manufacturer of a broad variety of tipped applicators, tongue depressors and other medical and non-medical disposable woodenware. Originally the firm was founded under the name of Minto Toothpick and Specialty Company, whose only product was mint-flavored toothpicks. Over the years, as market demands increased, the family business separated into two operating businesses to better serve the two distinct markets.

Since 1999, it’s been my pleasure leading these highly successful, central Maine companies thanks to the outstanding efforts of our talented and dedicated 450 employee workforce.

Marketed under our GoldBond® and Trophy™ brands, Hardwood Products Company LLC supplies disposable woodenware products to the foodservice and dairy industries, and to industrial and craft customers. Popular items include ice cream sticks, spoons, stirring sticks, and skewers. All woodenware is made from Northern White Birch, processed for its light color, smooth surface, tight grain, and tensile strength.

Puritan Medical Products Company LLC is known worldwide as the trusted manufacturer of single-use products for the healthcare, diagnostic, forensic, critical environment, food safety, and drug manufacturing industries. Our comprehensive product line of swabs and transport media systems, for example, takes advantage of the most up-to-date materials and manufacturing processes to deliver innovative solutions for even the most demanding applications.

Roland Landry is Plant Manager for the Globe footwear factory in Auburn, Maine (formerly Falcon Footwear). He has been in the footwear business since 1977, starting with Falcon while on high school summer breaks. During those nearly four decades, he has worked in every department of the business including being a stitcher, machinist, production supervisor, purchasing agent, and manager.

Before Globe first invested in Falcon in 2007 and acquired Falcon in 2014, Roland’s diverse footwear manufacturing experience included children’s shoes, work boots, safety shoes, hunting boots, mining boots, military boots, and firefighter boots. He has partnered with many leading brands in the footwear business, including Timberland, Dunham, Iron Age, Knapp, Browning, L.L. Bean, Cabela’s, and now Globe.

Roland’s expertise was instrumental in the successful launch of “Athletic Footwear for Firefighters” by Globe to the fire service in 2006 and continues to be an integral member of the Globe new product development team.

While most footwear manufacturing has moved overseas from the United States, Roland has led his team in making domestic manufacturing a strategic advantage by implementing lean manufacturing, installing state-of-the-art computerized equipment, adopting ISO 9000 quality systems, and providing employees with opportunities for growth.
