VISIT and LIKE our

THE VOLK PACKAGING HEROES WALL is intended to honor all men and women who have served or currently serve our great country in the Armed Forces. Anyone can put their loved ones face and information on the Heroes Wall. ALL PROCEEDS from the VPC HEROES WALL will be given to the Biddeford/Saco/Old Orchard Beach VFW.

Here is how it works;

* There will be 2 sides to the wall, one side will be for 8.5″ x 11″ tiles and the other side will be for 5″ x 7″ tiles.

* The larger tiles are $150 and the smaller tiles are $100. A small portion goes to Get Etched to create the tile and the balance is given to the VFW.

* We will soon have a form on our website which will allow people to submit the information, attach a photo and pay for a tile.

* The tiles will be adhered to the wall when we have built up enough to do the project and the Maine weather is cooperative.

* The wall will sit in the Volk Packaging front parking lot at 79 Drapeau Street, Biddeford, Maine. All are welcome to visit at any time, day or night.

* Anyone, from anywhere, can put their loved one’s face and information on the wall. You do not have to be from Biddeford/Saco/OOB.

* The photo can be a current photo, a photo with the family, a photo during their time in the military, or whatever else the tile sponsor chooses.

* An exact date for the construction of the wall has yet to be determined.

Until we get the website updated with payment options, if you are interested in becoming a tile donor, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact Derek Volk at dsvolk@volkboxes.com or (207) 571-5511.

We are actively seeking corporate or private sponsors to help make this wall a reality. We are hoping, in time, to have multiple sections.

For $2,500 your company or family name can be the primary sponsor to one side of a section of wall. This sponsorship puts your company name, permanently, along the entire top of the wall.

For $500 your company or family name can be a sub-sponsor to one side of a section of wall. This sponsorship puts an 8.5″ x 11″ tile, permanently, along the top row of the wall.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact Derek Volk atdsvolk@volkboxes.com or (207) 571-5511.

NOTE: VOLK PACKAGING, the Volk family or anyone involved with the company receives, keeps and/or gains no monetary income from this wall. Our reward is honoring those who have served.

I Moved from a Blue State to a Red State and it Changed My Life

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — I used to say I’d never move to a red state. And then I did. And it’s changed my life for the better.

In July 2016, I moved from San Diego to Terre Haute when my husband received a job opportunity at a local university. At 41 years old — at midlife — I moved from the blue, liberal left coast bubble to a rural, Midwest, Rust Belt red state.

I was raised in California, where we like to believe diversity is applauded and opportunities abound. In many ways, California’s blue state bubble can be a very safe place to live if you subscribe to the popular liberal politics.

Partners for World Health, based in Portland, Maine, collects unused medical supplies from New England medical facilities and re-distributes them to organizations in need. PWH also orchestrates medical missions in developing countries that deliver supplies and services and medical professionals in host countries.

In the first six months of 2017, PWH has delivered 4 containers overseas and over 20 pallets of medical supplies to Maine organizations. Bangladesh, Senegal and Uganda hosted medical mission teams that provided surgical and primary care services to over 1,000 people. PWH also has developed a “Purchase Program”, where medical training programs—Universities, Colleges, and Technical Schools— can purchase medical supplies and equipment for educational purposes.

PWH was founded by Elizabeth McLellan in 2007, who realized the dire need in developing countries and began collecting supplies in her home. The organization has now grown to collection sites throughout New England with four warehouses in Maine.
